INDOOR MUSHROOM GROWING KITS
For every
mushroom lover a Mushroom Patch Kit is a must. Growing your own mushrooms
is one of the most unique and rewarding experiences and the fruits of your labor
are beautiful and tasty! Each kit consists of pure mushroom mycelium growing on
a sterilized medium, or substrate. The substrate` used will vary,
depending on the mushroom being grown; for example, the Shiitake Mushroom Patch
grows on a mixture of enriched hardwood sawdust and wood chips, while the Pearl
Oyster Mushroom Patch grows in a bag of pasteurized wheat straw. Each kit
Certified Organic by the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
The process couldn't be easier to care; all you do is place the humidity tent we
provide over the Mushroom Patch and water it according to the instructions
As the Mushroom Caretaker, your job is to monitor the condition of your Patch
and water it according to the instructions. All of our indoor Mushroom Patches
are "disposable", eventually running out of the nutrients needed to
produce mushrooms. However, many of them can be broken up and subsequently
launched outdoors, in compost piles, bales of straw, or on hardwood chips or
logs.
One Mushroom Patch will yield 2 to
3 pounds of fresh organic mushrooms over a 16 week life cycle. There are ways to
extend your "mycelial mileage" by transporting your kit outdoors into
a hardwood log (alder or oak work well). After an incubation period of 6 to 12
months the log can produce mushrooms for years to come.
Please
note if you are giving the mushroom patch as a gift:
Each Mushroom patch can be held for 30 days until it needs to be activated. Pearl Oyster patches can be held for 1 week or less before they need to be activated (these will activate on their own if they are held for too long). The rest of our kits can be held for 2 weeks before needing to be activated or observed. Also, because they are live items and have such a short time before needing to grow there are no returns on Mushroom Kits. Our supplier will not take them back. They will offer assistance if the mushrooms are not growing.

"Last year I bought a shiitake kit and it was a big log thing they sent me, well I plopped it in a dish and sprayed it down here and there and it grew TONS of HUGE mushrooms, then I got hooked." Dave Z.
